New Charity for Viaduct

We made a commitment when we started the business three years ago to contribute a percentage of our leasing revenue to charity to ensure we were doing more than just building a business.

Every year we review the charity and allow the staff to choose whom we give the money to.  Canteen has been our charity for the last two years, however this year the staff have chosen to change our charity to Oxfam.

We would all like to take this opportunity to thank Canteen for the work they do and the association we have had with them over the last two years.

We look forward to working with Oxfam.

Why the name Guano?

We are getting this question quite frequently now, especially when people work out what Guano means. To clarify according to wikipedia

Guano (from the Quechua ‘wanu’, via Spanish) is the name given to the collected droppings of seabirds, bats, and seals [1]. It is highly prized as an effective fertilizer or gunpowder ingredient due to its high levels of phosphorus and nitrogen. Superphosphate made from guano is used for aerial topdressing. Soil that is deficient in organic matter can be made much more productive by addition of this manure. Guano consists of ammonia, along with uric, phosphoric, oxalic, and carbonic acids, as well as some earth salts and impurities. The high concentration of nitrates also made guano an important strategic commodity; in fact, the War of the Pacific between the Peru-Bolivia alliance and Chile was primarily based upon Bolivia’s attempt to tax Chilean guano harvesters.

For us it is all about giving business the opportunity to grow through a community based directory rather than one based on the size of your marketing budget. The traditional model benefits the larger business rather than the better business. We believe that guano helps fertilise business so that the better businesses grow.

Guano Winner Annouced

We had the draw for the apple ipod nano and it is with great pleasure that we announce our first winner at guano. Bruce Flavin from Bourbon New Zealand Ltd has won the ipod nano. Bruce is somewhat like us in that he has started something new and looking to grow. Bruce makes great bourbon and the details are below.

In the tradition of Kiwi ingenuity, resourcefulness and innovation, Bourbon NZ Ltd presents their New Zealand Spirit, Old Busman. For 30 years, the Old Busman has strived to refine and improve the process that produces this spirit. A burning desire to produce something unique has driven a search for better and better taste, character and quality. From simple beginnings, Bourbon NZ Ltd has grown into a boutique distillery. But it has not forgotten the early days and Old Busman is still double pot-stilled. Made from the artesian water of the Horowhenua, filtered through sugar maple charcoal and matured with imported oaks, Old Busman is a rich-flavoured liquor with delicate aromas and full body. Savoured on its own or with ice, or enjoyed with mixers, it ensures the drinker a fun Kiwi experience with no regrets the next morning. Currently, two varieties of Old Busman are available. The Gold Label is aged for 4 years, while the Black Label is 3 years older and is re-oaked to introduce differences that are obvious to the discerning palate. Bourbon NZ Ltd has confidence in Old Busman New Zealand Spirit. We hope you do, too! Cheers!
