Eftpos nightmare’ awaits retailers who don’t update terminals

We have had good coverage on our hurry up for the remaining merchants that have yet to upgrade.

You can read the story on the herald website here, or the newstalk website here, or radio new zealand here.

It will also be on prime tonight.

We are concerned that with so many merchants yet to upgrade some may miss out and be turned off on the 1st Jan 2008.

Latest winner of free terminal

Tina from Health & Fitness Studio, has won the latest free eftpos terminal as part of our upgrade promotion.  As you can imagine they are delighted with the result.  They have a great fitness studio in Greytown if you are in the area.

Like most businesses eftpos is an expense so to have it free helps reduce business costs.  If you cannot win a free terminal you may want to look at the new applications that allow you to earn revenue from your eftpos terminal.  These include phone tops up and currency conversion for international travellers. Call us to see how we can change your eftpos terminal from a  business expense to revenue generator. 0800 484 238

They are now upgraded to take the new cards and have no payments to make for the 36 month leasing term.

ETSL releases sunset dates

ETSL and its partner banks have released a new set of Sunset, Deployment and Certification dates for the ETSL/Paymark network which transacts 75% of eftpos merchants.

Interesting is that the version 5.1 which most merchants are moving to will no longer be deployed from 1st June 2008 and this includes swap outs. So if you purchase an eftpos terminal with 5.1 and it breaks on the 2nd of June 2008, unless it can be upgraded to six you have just purchased an expensive paperweight!

Provenco first to achieve latest EFTPOS standard in New Zealand

Provenco, the supplier of the popular Hypercom range, is the first EFTPOS provider in the country to achieve 5.2 certification. The company’s Hypercom T7Plus is the first terminal to meet the certification, which ensures compatibility with new chip based credit cards being introduced globally in line with EMV (Europay, Mastercard, Visa) security standards.

This is significant for the market as version 5.1 already has a sunset date of 1st June 2011. Version 5.2 will go through to June 2014. For those looking at purchasing the terminal ensure that the terminal has an upgrade to at least 5.2 otherwise leasing the unit makes more sense.

The latest 5.2 terminal certification was awarded to Provenco by EFTPOS network operator Paymark, the company responsible for processing nearly 75 per cent of all electronic transactions in New Zealand’s retail market.
