How to get the flu!

Heart Stopper Challenge

One of our staff members chose the wrong week to fund-raise for the Heart Stopper Challenge. In the worst week for weather Sanita jumped in a freezing cold spa to raise money for her netball team and the Heart Foundation. It must of worked for her as he has been selected to represent Wellington at the Nationals.  Congrats from the team at Viaduct.

5 mins in freezing water!

5 mins in freezing water!

A team of 4 or 5 get together, choose a dress theme (the whackier the better) & plunge into an icy pool for 5 minutes.

The Inspiration

Twelve babies are born every week with a heart defect in New Zealand.  For many of these children medical intervention is their only chance of survival.  This year alone, 450 open heart surgeries will be conducted on Kiwi children.  During surgery the child is cooled down in icy slush to slow the heart.  That’s the inspiration for this unique event.

eftpos 5.1 deployment on Paymark

As we have discussed on a number of occasions 31st March 2009 was the last deployment for version 5.1 software.  This version, while compliant, does not provide the experience the industry is trying to create.  There are issues with

Card acceptance
PIN Bypass

This software version has a sunset date of June 2011.  That means all terminals running 5.1 must be upgraded or removed from the PAYMARK network by this time.  As an industry it is in our best interest to upgrade this base early to prepare us for the Rugby World Cup such that the 90,000 overseas visitors that we expect to enjoy a singular card acceptance experience.

However it still seems that there are some people connecting 5.1 terminals outside of the rules set out by the Banks. This is creating a bigger issue for the industry and is unfair to the merchants who will have to upgrade within the next two years.

PAYMARK will now move to disconnect all such terminals once the bank teams have advised PAYMARK of those merchants for which the Banks are prepared to offer dispensation.  If you have any questions regarding your terminal then please give us a call on 0800 484 238. We are New Zealand’s leading independent reseller and at times like this it is very important that you get independent advice. It is very important that unless you have a specific functionality requirement you get a terminal that is 5.2 or above or have the ability to upgrade built in to your purchase or lease cost.
