Eftpos Terminal Security

Recent fraudulent activity around eftpos terminals in Australia resulting in $5 million dollars of losses has highlighted the need to be vigilant around your eftpos terminal.

Your eftpos terminal is equipped with a number of built-in security features which have been designed to protect your customers’ information. There are also several good practices you can implement to protect your business and customers from fraud.
- Always ensure your eftpos terminal is secure and monitored during opening hours.
- Ensure that employees are fully trained on the use of your terminal. Viaduct can provide easy to follow quick guides for every terminal.
- Never allow your eftpos terminal to be maintained or swapped without prior notice from your eftpos provider. Card skimmers replace the PIN pad with a modified one which allows them to capture the customers card number and also their PIN.
- Have your staff inspect your terminal on a regular basis to make sure that none of the stickers or serial numbers have been tampered with and there are no additional connections or cables.
- Record your terminal’s serial number and store in a secure location. Check the serial number matches the terminal weekly.
- Always ensure your eftpos terminal is stored securely and not exposed to unauthorised access.

If you suspect your terminal has been tampered with, do not process any transactions and contact your eftpos provider immediately. Viaduct can be contacted on 0800 484 238, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To mum, with love!

According to figures from network provider, Paymark, spending on Mothers Day this year was higher than in 2009.

Paymark Chief Executive Simon Tong says $52.2 million was spent at restaurants on Mother’s Day and the week before - 10.4% more than last year.

Gift stores also benefited. This year purchases totaled $11.89 million, an increase of 10% on the same period last year.

Good on you New Zealand for spoiling your Mothers!

Success for CanTeen!

Well done to those that made it along to opening night of the exhibition ‘The Brief’ in support of CanTeen. They raised a fantastic $10,000 - what a great result! Viaduct are thrilled to have been able to provide a mobile eftpos terminal to help them sell raffle tickets, artwork and collect donations. Catch the last two days of the exhibition at the Deus ex Machina, 90 Wellesley Street, Auckland.

‘The Brief’ - CanTeen

Most of us at some stage in our lives will know, or know of, a young person who is or has suffered from some form of cancer.

CanTeen was established to ensure that no young person in New Zealand living with cancer should ever have to feel alone. Their foundation was built upon the fundamental belief that young people - through meeting, talking and sharing their experiences - would be better able to cope with the uncertainties of living with cancer.

CanTeen do not receive any government funding and are therefore totally reliant on the generosity of individuals, the community and their partners. This Thursday, 29th April, they are launching a photography exhibition, ‘The Brief’, which calls upon the talents of renowned Auckland photographers Carolyn Haslett, David Shields, Jackie Meiring, Russ Flatt and Stephen Tilley. CanTeen will recieve the profits from the sale of the limited edition pieces which will help fund CanTeen’s annual Art Workshop and CanGrow grants.

The exhibition is open to the public from April 30th unitl the 6th of May 2010 at Deus ex Machina, 90 Wellesley Street, Auckland CBD. Visit www.the-brief.com to view or purchase the pieces online.

Viaduct is proud to have donated the use of a mobile eftpos terminal to help collect those much needed donations.

Paymark Network Connectivity Issues

Last night (Thursday 22nd April) between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, the Paymark Network experienced some technical issues.

This event caused a connectivity loss to a small percentage of customers, which should now be fully restored.

This is a great reminder for merchants to have their offline vouchers and zip zap machines handy. These are available through your merchant services team at your acquiring bank.

If you are in Wellington and have any issues with your eftpos after yesterday’s power cut, please re-start your terminal.

If you have any questions, please give us a call on 0800 484 238.
